Tour group visits

Cogges Manor Farm is the perfect location for your group visit. A beautifully preserved collection of Cotswold stone farm buildings set in its own grounds, the site has been occupied since before the Domesday Book and parts of the manor house date back to the Thirteenth Century. With support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, new interpretation brings to life 1000 years of history at Cogges. An optional tour guide* dedicated to your group (additional charge) can lead you through the changes and adaptations made at Cogges to survive over the centuries.  *Booking ahead is essential.

Such a unique location lends itself perfectly to being used as a location for TV and the big screen, most notably Downton Abbey, Arthur & George and Colette. The Manor House and grounds were used extensively in series 4 to 6 of Downton Abbey, and the Manor House kitchen and Victorian bedroom also feature in scenes from the latest Downton movie 'A New Era'. Yew Tree Farm is home to the Drewe family, where Lady Edith’s child is brought up, and later home to Mr Mason. Scenes filmed at Cogges feature most of the leading cast members including Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Allan Leech and Michelle Dockery.

Arthur & George is based on the book by Julian Barnes about the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and features Martin Clunes, Art Malik and Charles Edwards.

Colette was feature film released in 2019, starring Keira Knightley and Dominic West about the French author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette.

How long will it take

The main historic and filming locations are close together and can all be seen in under an hour if on a tight timescale, whilst two hours leaves time to explore the gardens, farm animals and beautiful natural grounds.

A lovely manor house, with parts dating back to the 13th century, which, although situated just minutes from the bustling market town centre of Witney, makes you feel like you are in the countryside. Suitable for families - with small animals, an adventure playground and other activities. Cogges was also the location of Downton Abbey's Yew Tree Farm and there is an exhibition about the filming.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for organising the Downton Tour. My girlfriend loved it, and Isobel’s knowledge and enthusiasm was wonderful, she made it a very special visit. We have recommended Cogges to a number of our friends.
